Come, celebrate the season with music, song and revelry. The Barony of the Steppes, in long standing tradition again brings you Kingdom Eisteddfod and our own 12th Night Celebration.
There will be singing, dancing, drinking, feasting, comradery, siege engine contests, children’s activities and of course, costume and table decorating contests!
The theme of this year’s event is a great combination of Moorish, Western and Jewish cultures, the 11th century lands of Al-Andalus, modernly known as Andalusia, Spain. Bring your best middle-eastern garb, table decorations, feast gear and dancing clothes.
Our feast will be a tour-de-force of Mediterranean flavors from all cultures, with dishes sure to satisfy all eating habits.

I challenge you to make as many as you can of those that are needed by our Kingdom. The Crown has advised that they need Rising Stars, Compass Roses, Comets, Thistles, Cranes, and Talons, etc. They have a good supply of the woven insignia items but need the other types. I challenge you to make as many of these as you can, of the best quality you can, the most original and beautiful that you can. Bring these to Steppes Twelfth Night. I will award prizes for the most beautiful, the greatest number and the most creative. I will display some of the insignia I have created as well such as a 1 ounce flask covered in leather with a thistle design, also a collapsible cup with a thistle design and a sheath to hold stork scissors for those who sew or embroider. I will also have a carved bone talon. These ideas are to get your creative juices flowing. Come up with insignia using your favorite medium and remember that these should be something that you would be proud to wear as well as reasonably durable.I f you need information regarding the proper layout and colors, etc. for the insignia, that information is in the Official Award Texts of the Kingdom of Ansteorra at the following URL:http://heraldry.ansteorra.org/docs/AwardTexts2005.pdf I look forward to seeing the results of your efforts at Steppes Twelfth Night.12th Night Documentary Contact: Lodovico BenevoglioA documentary on 12th Night is currently in the works, being produced by myself. You know me as Lodovico Benevoglio, long-time resident of the Steppes. The target is for a one-hour documentary suitable for general release, currently titled "Revel." The projected completion date of the finished documentary is probably June of 2007 (yes, it does take that long to edit).T he plan is to show what goes on to put on such an event, along with the actual event itself. I'm looking to attend the organizational meetings, cooking sessions, planning meetings, etc. This is to cover the "official" side of 12th Night.B esides the organizational details, I would like to include the populace's aspect as well, showing the 12th Night experience from the attendee's point of view.I am looking for members of the populace who are planning on attending 12th Night who would be willing to let me videotape them as they research and make new costumes, work on their entry in the best-decorated table competition, plus any special projects they may be working on for 12th Night. I am looking for BOTH late and early period personas, male AND female, who would let me document their costuming efforts. In particular, I would be interested in documenting childrens' costuming efforts, as they usually get left out of most documentaries like this.P lease don't think your costuming isn't "good" or "authentic" enough -- I want footage from all levels of skill and authenticity, from those who use fabric off the bolt from the store to those who pick the sheep and shear, card, spin, and weave their own fabric, from people whose outfits look good from ten feet away to those people who are authentic down to their last item of underwear, and from those who use a sewing machine to that person in the 100% hand-stitched garb. Everyone plays at different levels, and I want to include you all.L ogistics limit me to people in the DFW metroplex, mainly evenings and weekends since I have a real-world job that pays for projects like this. If you are interested in participating. Please note that all participation is unpaid, and a release form will have to be signed if you become a "major" participant. Release forms will also be signed at gate gate when you enter.Table Decorating Contest Contact: Duchess Willow the Wisp
